Best Arena swimming goggles

If you are looking for Arena swimming goggles, you will soon come across several models that appear very similar on paper. In the water, however, they feel quite different. For competitions, the choice mainly comes down to the fit of the Cobra models. For training and first competitions, a less pronounced race fit is often more comfortable.

If you would first like to view the full range, you can find it in the Arena swimming goggles collection. In this comparison, we focus only on the models we find most interesting for each use.

Our Arena choices by use

Use Model Why
Competition, deep and compact fit Arena Cobra Ultra Sits deep and close around the eye
Competition, slightly more space around the eye Arena Cobra Edge More distance from the eyes and eyelashes
More affordable Cobra option Arena Cobra Core Less deep than the Ultra and lower priced
Training and first competitions Arena Air Sonic More comfortable starting point without an extreme race fit

For a genuine Arena competition goggles option, we compare the Cobra Ultra and Cobra Edge. We do not see them as number one and two, but as two equally strong competition options with different fits.

Arena Cobra Ultra: for a deep, compact race fit

The Arena Cobra Ultra is particularly suited to swimmers who like to wear very compact competition goggles. Arena has designed the model to sit low and uses extended side sections for stability while swimming.

Based on our fitting experience, the Ultra sits relatively deep in the eye socket. This can feel very comfortable if the shape suits your face, but the lens may come close to longer eyelashes. The interchangeable nose bridges help you fine-tune the fit.

The Swipe versions also feature Arena's reactivatable anti-fog technology. This is a useful additional feature, but it is not the reason we would choose the Ultra over the Edge. The fit comes first.

Arena Cobra Edge: competition goggles with more space

For us, the Arena Cobra Edge is equally a top choice for competitions. The main difference from the Ultra is around the eyes.

Based on our fitting experience, the Edge sits slightly further away from the eye and provides more space around the eyelashes. Arena has also developed the model with a wide field of vision upwards and to the sides. This means the Edge may be a better fit for swimmers who find the Ultra too deep.

The Edge remains a compact, streamlined pair of race goggles. It is therefore not simply a softer training version of the Ultra.

Cobra Ultra or Cobra Edge?

If the deeper Ultra fits well and your eyelashes do not touch the lens, it is a strong competition choice. If you would prefer a little more distance between your eyes and the lens, we would try the Edge alongside it.

For us, there is no overall winner. Which of the two is better depends mainly on your face.

Arena Cobra Core: a more affordable option within the Cobra series

The Arena Cobra Core is worth considering if you want compact Cobra goggles but are not ready to choose the Ultra or Edge.

Based on our fitting experience, the Core sits less deeply than the Ultra. The space around the eyelashes is closer to what you experience with the Edge, although the Edge has a more streamlined construction. The Core is also more affordable.

This makes it particularly interesting for a competitive swimmer looking for a Cobra fit without needing all the features of the two more expensive models.

Arena Air Sonic: for training and beginner competitive swimmers

We would mainly choose the Arena Air Sonic for training and for swimmers taking part in their first competitions. You get a sporty pair of goggles without immediately moving to the deeper race fit of a Cobra.

The Air Sonic follows the Arena Air-Speed. For us, both models are clearly more training-oriented than the Ultra and Edge, but they can also be used in competitions.

If you mainly swim longer training sessions or would first like to find out what feels comfortable around your eyes, this is often a more comfortable starting point. If you later move to more compact competition goggles, you can make a more informed decision about which Cobra fit suits you.

Which Arena swimming goggles would we choose?

For competitions, we would start with the Cobra Ultra and Cobra Edge and let the fit decide. The Ultra sits deeper, while the Edge provides slightly more space around the eyes. If you want a more affordable Cobra, the Core is the next option to consider.

For training and first competitions, the Air Sonic is a more accessible starting point for many swimmers.

The most important step is therefore straightforward: first decide what you will use the goggles for, and only then compare the models within that category. A technically more advanced model is only the better choice if it also fits your face well.
