Fédération internationale de natation
FINA is the international swimming federation and is based in Switzerland. Although FINA has become a standalone term, it is an abbreviation of Fédération internationale de natation, or International Swimming Federation in English. FINA is the governing body for all swimming disciplines, from open water swimming and water polo to diving and classic indoor swimming competitions.
FINA Approved swim equipment
Swim equipment approved by FINA is suitable for use at FINA-organised (or FINA-approved) events and the Olympic Games. World records in FINA disciplines can also only be officially recognised when FINA Approved equipment has been used.
FINA Approved swim equipment, such as swimming goggles, swim caps and swimsuits, meets strict requirements and is suitable for swimming at the highest level. For amateur swimmers too, a FINA Approved rating is a sign of high quality and maximum performance.
