International Federation of Nations
FINA is the international swimming federation and is based in Switzerland. Although FINA has become a separate term, it is an abbreviation of Fédération internationale de natation, or International Swimming Federation in English. FINA is the umbrella organization for all swimming disciplines, ranging from open water swimming and water polo to diving and classic indoor swimming competitions.
FINA Approved material
FINA-approved swimming equipment is suitable for use at FINA-organized (or FINA-approved) events and the Olympic Games. Furthermore, world records related to FINA disciplines can only be officially ratified if FINA-approved equipment is used.
