Tips to get the most out of every swim!

At Sneppies, we believe it's important to get the most out of every swim. That's why we've created a list of tips to help you get just that little bit more out of every swim. These tips are suitable for both competitive and non-competitive swimmers.

  • Make sure you are fit and injury-free!
  • Stretching & Stretching
  • Following a good diet
  • Ask for feedback
  • Also focus on what is not going well
  • Follow a training schedule

Make sure you are fit and injury-free!

This may sound obvious, but it proves difficult for most swimmers. If you have an injury, wait until you're fully fit again before gradually starting training again. Furthermore, prevention is better than cure. Always make sure to warm up and cool down before swimming (and any other sport).

Stretching & Stretching

Working on your flexibility for 5 to 10 minutes every day offers enormous benefits, both in and out of the pool. Besides making your muscles more flexible and your joints move more easily, it also improves your blood circulation. This allows your body to better supply your muscles with nutrients and recover faster.

Furthermore , daily stretching helps reduce stress. This has the added benefit of making it easier to adopt a better posture. Research also shows that stretching helps you sleep more easily and better.

Following a good diet

Nourish those muscles! When exercising, your body uses energy, and this naturally needs to be replenished. That's why it's important to follow a healthy and varied diet. This diet should, of course, take into account your calorie intake and your goals. Because if you want to make progress in swimming (or any other sport), providing sufficient nutrients for your muscles is much more important than the exercise itself.

Ask for feedback

If you want to improve at something, you almost always need feedback. This is because others can more quickly and easily spot things that can be improved quite easily. So ask your coach or fellow swimmer to spot you while you're swimming. This way, you'll quickly spot small areas for improvement that can make your swimming much easier.

Also focus on what is not going well

Almost everyone knows it. That one little thing in your technique that's not quite right. That one stroke you keep getting wrong. And that's okay; it's secretly part of it. Still, it's important to identify these kinds of mistakes. So you can then focus on them and improve.
